First, and probably most importantly, Barack Obama is sworn in this nation's 44th, and first African America president, making the white house black, and proving we are capable of progress.
A woman in Texas decapitated and dismembered her three and half week-old baby boy. The woman ate parts of the baby, including the brain, claiming the devil told her to do it. The police found her with a self inflicted chest wound, and her throat partially slashed. She is being charged with capital murder.

Michael Jackson died. World wide grief. Within an hour of the official statement of his death, I started receiving text forwards of MJ jokes. Online, reactions to the event cripple several major websites and services, as the abundance of people accessing the web addresses pushes internet traffic to potentially unprecedented and historic levels.
Farrah Fawcett and Billy Mays also died.
2009 was a terrible year for new music, but there were a few gems.
Them Crooked Vultures-self-titled
Say Anything-self-titled
Paramore-Brand New Eyes
KSM-Read Between the Lines (personally, i don't much care for this, but the guitar player is from palmdale and used to play with leila, so that's pretty cool.)
Black Eyed Peas-The E.N.D. (again, not really a fan, but the album makes for good entertainment.)
Taking Back Sunday-New Again
Dethklok-Dethalbum II
Between The Buried and Me-The Great Misdirect
2009 music releases that were really disappointing
The Used-Artwork
The Dead Weather-Horehound (I don't really know what I was expecting. It is Jack White after all. ugh)
Jonas Brothers-Lines, Vines, and Trying Times. Paranoid. and some live album. (Now, don't get me wrong. I wasn't looking forward to anything the Jonas Brothers did, and thus could not have been disappointed, but the fact that they had THREE SEPARATE releases in ONE YEAR and there's not a single bit of it that I can stand is somewhat troubling. TOOL, one of the greatest bands ever, only puts out an album maybe every 5 years. I guess my point is, I wish the JoBros would spend a little more time on their music. There is absolutely no doubt that these three...um...guys...have talent. I would just like to see that be allowed to breathe, which would probably start with getting out from under Disney's oppressive thumb. I feel like there's a lot of potential for really good mid-90's pop punk or really good mid-90's alternative rock there. anywhere, there's my 2 cents on that.)
Green Day-21st Century Breakdown
Dead By Sunrise-Out Of Ashes
Bands that reformed in 2009 (that no one cares about)
Phish
Creed
Limp Bizkit (original line up)
